Halloween - a favorite for play therapists

Halloween brings great play therapy finds to stores. These are both containers that open and things can go inside. These are used a lot in play therapy. Great for hiding away scary things...protecting things/feelings that need protecting. This helps get distressing and scary thoughts, feelings and images out of the head and body. It also feels very powerful to be able to do this when kids often don't have a lot of power in their lives.

We use containers in EMDR to physically put things in them with children because their brain development often doesn't support imagining a container and putting thoughts, feelings and images in it. It is too abstract for younger ones. They need to be able to see, touch and change physically. This is why big abstract concepts like death can be so distressing and too big to manage for some children.

So Ill be keeping my eyes open for some great scary themed containers!
